This week we have the pleasure of bringing listeners an episode with special guest George Srour, Chief Dreamer and Founder of Building Tomorrow. Building Tomorrow is an international nonprofit organization with school-building operations in Sub-Saharan Africa. Building Tomorrow “envisions a world where every child with a desire to learn has access to a safe, permanent, quality, and local place to do so. [Their team] focuses on providing access to education in hard-to-reach rural areas, and providing support to improve the quality of education in Building Tomorrow schools and hundreds of other government schools in need of intervention.”

In our conversation with George, we discuss how he launched the organization after he graduated from college and his journey to expand its mission, which now has built 60 schools in Africa. George shares what he’s learned from working with some of the world’s most notable leaders and provides insight into how marketing has helped scale his organization.

Tune in for details on:

  • How George came up with the courage to take the leap and start his own organization, that 10 years later has built 60 schools for children in Africa;
  • What he’s learned from working with leaders like Bill and Hillary Clinton, Desmond Tutu, and others;
  • The “marketing crisis” for this specific type of nonprofit work: For marketing specifically, experiments that did and did not work for George and what he learned on his marketing journey;
  • Brand marketing struggles: How Building Tomorrow has worked to brand itself globally in a way that doesn’t offend or cause harm to its many audiences;
  • How he stays inspired to try new things and take more risks when his work environment can be sometimes turbulent and is very much affected by the politics of the world surrounding it;
  • Contributing factors he learned were crucial to his experiments and efforts in growing and scaling: In Building Tomorrow’s case, community involvement and awareness, for example.
